One of our specialties at the Archives is assisting researchers with genealogical or family history research. In addition to documents such as family files, local newspapers, and land records, we have an extensive reference library which can help you trace your family tree and put your research into context.
We also have a subscription to Ancestry Library which researchers can access within our facility. Staff can assist you with navigating this powerful online database on our public computer or on your own device through our free WiFi network.
If you are new to genealogical research, be sure to visit one of our Beginner's Geneaology workshops when available. Created to help the beginner genealogist, these guides identify key resources both within our collection and online that can help you with your research.
Ancestry Library
User can only have full access to Ancestry Library within the Archives through wifi or using one of our public computer stations.
Ontario Genealogical Society
The Archives closely works with the Lambton County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. This dedicated group of local genealogists holds monthly meetings and the public is welcome to attend the presentation portion of each meeting to learn more about genealogy.
In addition, Lambton OGS members work to make resources more accessible for fellow researchers. They are currently indexing the Petrolia Topic newspaper from the Archives' collection and you will find many of their indexing projects on the shelves in our reading room.
Their library holdings of reference books, indexes, and family histories is housed in the Archives' reading room and is accessible to our researchers. For a full listing of their library holdings, please visit their website.
