A Disgraceful Riot
Black people were contributors to the local Oil Springs economy and the development of the early oil industry in Canada. Many workers were able to find work as day labourers in Oil Springs, however, discrimination was still a problem. On March 14, 1863 the Oil Springs race riot took place.
