OBITUARY Died, in great peace, at Wisbeach, on Tuesday, the 27th inst., Charles A., beloved son of Thomas and Mary Southorn, aged 24 years, less 21 days. At the age of 19 months Charles received a stroke of paralysis, which left him an invalid for life. His affliction, however, did not sour his temper, nor make him a wilful or disobedient child. Thoughtful and kind, teachable and obedient, he grew up a noble boy, beloved by all. At the early age of 14 years he made choice of Christ as his Savior, at which time he united with the Methodist Church to remain a faithful and consistent member till the time of his decease. His faith was always strong, and as the end approached he was full of peace and confidence. He assured his pastor and his people that in Christ he was rich and strong. His last words were “Happy!, happy! Tell my aunt that Jesus was with me, and that I will be looking for her.”
How blest the righteous when he dies,
When sinks a weary soul to rest!
How mildly beam the closing eyes;
How gently heaves the expiring breast!
As fades the autumn cloud away,
As sinks the gale when storms are o’er,
As gently shuts the eye of day,
As dies the wave along the shore.
Who would not wish to die like those
Whom God’s own spirit deigns to bless;
To sink into that soft repose,
And wake to finished righteousness.
