Blackware Chimu ceramic jug (circa 1300 - 1532 CE) captures the significance of agriculture for Peruvian people. The jug is fashioned in the shape of a pepper (Capsicum Baccatum). It is a chilli pepper with origins in ancient Peru and is associated with present-day Peruvian cuisine.
The Chimu practiced a skilled and complex system of agriculture with irrigation canals, raised fields and a settlement foragricultural workers.
The jug was brought back from Peru by International Oil Driller Charles Wallen in the early 20th Century.
