International Driller, John Braybook, who brought back this blackware pottery, notes that the vessel came from the ancient city of Chan Chanin Peru.
Chan Chanwas the largest city in pre-Colombian America and was the capital of the costal Chimu Kingdom that reached its apex in the 15th Century.
The bustling city of Chan Chan came to an end when the Inca conquered the city in about 1470 CE. By the 1530s the city was largely abandoned when the Spanish arrived.
