Distinguishing Characteristics: The colour is the best indicator of this mineral. It is very hard. There are large mineral deposits in northern Ontario near Thunder Bay. It does not fluoresce under black light like Fluorite.
Uses: Amethyst is often used to make jewelry. Due to its abundance it is not very expensive but still pretty.
