Village of Point Edward
Guiding Beacon: Marg Scott
Marg Scott has worked hard to protect and celebrate the history of Point Edward.
Marg worked at the Point Edward library for 7 years until her retirement in 1998. She set up a special History Room on the upper level of the library that tells local stories and includes pictures in the gallery. Although officially retired, she continues to volunteer organizing the History Room. The History Room contains local photographs that tell the stories of sports, schools, businesses, churches and individuals in Point Edward.
Marg places a special value on protecting the past: “Everything new is coming in, but some of the new stuff isn't as good as the old stuff in a lot of ways. Back then, families stayed together, they enjoyed each others company, they visited…”
New contributions to the History Room are a community effort, and Marg accepts donations from the public who want to see the collection grow. She has also worked with local residents to write history books.
Nominated by friend and former co-worker Pat McEvoy, Pat confirmed that Marg “is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Point Edward… [the History Room] tells the story of Point Edward's past and present.”
