Annie Lucy McLellan was born in 1915 in Sarnia. Mrs. McLellan was active in the Girl Guides of Canada where she was president of the local girl guides and one of the groups influential in starting the first Sarnia summer camp on the shores of Lake Huron. She was also a parishioner at St. George's Church where she was an active member spending many years in the choir and part of various groups.
When World War 2 started she served at the blood bank in Sarnia from the very first day to the last. She noted that William C. Nelson, the mayor of Sarnia at the time as the first donor. She devoted much of her life to work with St. John Ambulance Brigade for many years where her impressive work awarded her many medals and commendations. In order to qualify herself for the many tasks at St. Johns Ambulance, Mrs. McLellan took an intensified instruction in first aid work and general nursing.
She is credited with over 2000 hours of service for work at the children's clinic, air-raid assistance, care for war refugees, first-aid demonstrations, and other brigade work. She also taught countless people at Sarnia General Hospital in general nursing and first aid. She is quoted to have said "I enjoy the work and most of the credit belongs to the many men and women with whom I have worked."
