Wyoming Parade 1895
Next week, Wyoming will be celebrating their 150th anniversary, so this week’s Stories from the Vault is inspired by Wyoming.
To help you get into the celebratory spirit, we have this photograph of a parade marching its way along Broadway Street in Wyoming around 1895. In the background, we can spot the Blaquier and Jones Cash Store, a general store located where the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Hall can be found today. The parade was likely in celebration of Victoria Day, and we can make out a parade float being pulled by a horse and a long line of revelers with their festive hats and waving flags.
Another grand parade was held in 1973 for the village’s centennial and was reported to have been the longest in the village’s history! It was over a mile long and featured floats, bands, decorated cars, and a pack of pure-bred Scotch Collies. They have our vote for most adorable parade entry!
