Mrs. Hunter
Mrs. Hunter was awarded the Red Cross Society award in 1979.
During the war, Mrs. Hunter assisted the late Mrs. Harry Watson in distributing wool for wartime knitting and organized light breakfasts for blood donors at the Saturday morning clinics. Following a nine year hiatus from her time in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia where her husband was transferred by Imperial Oil, she returned to her services in Sarnia where she organized the local meals-on-wheels service. In 1966, the cost for this service was 50 cents and they delivered 12 meals on Wednesday. By 1979, the cost was 75 cents with over 1,000 meals delivered each month.
Along with Mrs. John VanDerveen, Mrs. Hunter was also involved with senior services, preparing Christmas parcels for residents in Nursing homes and veterans at Westminster Hospital, now Victoria Hospital, in London, Ontario.
