Maude Mae Fournie Hayes' Cherry Cheese Cake

Maude Mae Fournie was born on the 11th of July 1906, in Sombra Township, Lambton County, Ontario. She was the fifth child born to Peter and Noma (Dawson) Fournie. Peter was born in Quebec and Noma Dawson was born in Sarnia Township. They were married on 30 Oct 1894, in Courtright, Lambton County. They had ten children four girls and six boys (see below), and were members of the Baptist faith.

Maude Mae Fournie married Russell Hayes on the 25th August 1928, in Sarnia, Lambton County. Russell was born in Petrolia on 16 Jan 1897, to Silas and Elizabeth (Bailey) Hayes. Maude’s groom was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed man who, according to his WW1 recruitment papers stood 5’6”. At the time of their marriage Russell was a Steam Stillman. After their marriage they took up farming along RR3, Camlachie. Maude and Russell had three children, two daughters and one son.
Unfortunately, Russell died at the age of 56 in 1953. His funeral was presided over by Rev. J.F. Bell of Camlachie Presbyterian Church and he was laid to rest in the Wyoming Cemetery. Maude lived an additional 53 years after her husband’s death.
In about 1961 Maude left the Camlachie area and moved into a house in Sarnia. Maude was an active member of Laurel Lea Presbyterian Church in Sarnia. At the time of Maude’s death on 18 Jan 2006, she and her late husband had 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Maude passed away about six months before her 100th birthday and was laid to rest in Wyoming Cemetery beside her husband Russell.
Ingredients:
2 – 8 oz pkg. cream cheese (room temp.)
¼ c. lemon juice
1 c. icing sugar
1 pkg. dream whip
Cherry Cheese Cake:
Prepare dream whip as directed.
Beat cream cheese until creamy, add lemon juice and icing sugar.
Whip smooth and add to dream whip mixture.
Beat until fluffy.
Prepare graham wafer crust and bake at 325 degrees.
When cool, add fluffy mixture and top with 1 can prepared cherry pie filling.
It can be made in pie plate and cut in wedges. Or 9 x 9 square cake pan.
