French Cream Pie
This Historic Recipe comes to us from “The Kitchen Crusade” – 1938 – Compiled and Published by Sixth Line of Moore United Church. 1938 marked the 50th Anniversary of the Church.
Jessie “Fae” Will was born on 1 Sept 1920 in Moore Twp. to Lawrence and Myrtle Mae (Williams) Will. Fae had one sibling, a brother named Roy Elsmere Will, who was born in 1919 and passed away in 1999.
On 5 April 1939 Fae married Ivan Herbert Robbins, son of Frank John and Nellie (Arnold) Robbins. Both Fae and Ivan were living on the 6th Line of Moore Twp. when they were married. They had a family of five daughters, among them a set of triplets, and one son. At the time of Fae’s passing, they had 17 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Fae was an active life long member of the Sixth Line United Church and was a valued volunteer at the Moore Museum in Mooretown. She also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels.
Ivan predeceased Fae in 1997 and Fae passed away on 11 June 2008 at Bluewater Health, C.E.E. Hospital in Petrolia. They were laid to rest in he Bear Creek Cemetery, St. Clair Township.
Ingredients
1 cup sour milk or cream
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups sifted flour
½ teaspoon soda (scant)
½ cup sour cream
2 tablespoons shortening
Salt – (no amount listed)
Instructions
Cook together until thick, raisins, sugar, milk and egg yolks, cinnamon. Add soda Just before removing from fire. Let cool. Place in baked shell, spread on top, beaten egg whites and brown in oven.
