John W. Anderson (1857–1932) was born in Scotland and came to Canada with his parents and older brother when he was a year old. The family settled near Simcoe where they farmed for many years. John also sailed the Great Lakes for a number of years.
John and his first wife, Julia Callaghan (–1923), were married at All Saints Church, Strathroy in 1885. Their daughter Marie was born in 1899. They lived in Adelaide Twp. before moving to Warwick, sometime between 1901 and 1910. It isn't known exactly when or why they moved to Warwick Twp. The 1911 census has them listed at District 42, Warwick.
In February 1911, Dr. Eckel of Adelaide and Dr. Newell of Watford were called to attend Marie, who had been sick a few days. She died of “brain fever”. When it was known that Marie was dead, school was dismissed, the flag was hung at half-mast and the trustees, teacher and children came in a body to show their sympathy and respect.
In 1915, John and Julia moved to Wyoming, Ont. and then to Petrolia, Ont. Julia (Callaghan) Anderson died in Petrolia. John then married a widow, Bessie (Maw) Stonehouse (–1930). John died in Petrolia.
